About Casa De Abo, the culture and history of a New Mexico artisan
Abenicio "Benny" Sisneros was raised in the settlement of Abo, New Mexico. His family owned the majestic ruins of Abo until the 1930's when they gifted the ruins to the State of New Mexico. In 1980 the State delegated the well being of the ruins to Salinas National Monuments. Abenicio's ancestors settled in Abo during the mid 1600's and fled during the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. His forefathers returned and resettled in the area in the late 1800's.
Stationed in Germany after World War II, Abenicio eventually returned to his home of Abo to raise his children. Abenicio is known to his family for keeping a notebook next to his recliner and filling it with sketches of people, creatures, and his next great idea.
Upon his retirement from the Sisneros Bros. Mfg., a manufacturing plant he created with his sons, Abenicio was encouraged by his wife and five children to develop his artistic side that he had suppressed for so long. He began to "sculpt" his dream and with that came the idea of Casa De Abo. With Casa De Abo, Abenicio hopes to provide a piece of New Mexico to all those that want to know what New Mexico is about.
Abenicio now sculpts many forms out of the alabaster and limestone that he finds on his ranch in Abo. He creates beautiful pieces of art that inspire the soul. The alabaster and limestione create great effects to the carved image. Abenicio displays and has made available to you pieces that reflect and tell the history of New Mexico. This is why Casa De Abo is known as another place, another time. |
