Anthony P. Martinez
Anthony Martinez is a prominent Southwest alabaster sculptor and native of the Northern New Mexico community of Questa. Growing up near Taos surrounded by the Southwest Indian culture and his heritage of Caucasian, Hispanic, and Pueblo Indian have greatly influenced his art work. He received his formal art education at the Art Institute in Minneapolis, but credits his father, Joe Martinez, an artist and teacher in Santa Fe, New Mexico, for most of his training in sculpting stone. His passion and talent for sculpting, Martinez put aside his career in electronics and purses art full time. As he says, “It makes me feel closer to my creator.”
His unique sculptures, both contemporary and traditional have won 1st and 2nd places prizes at the New Mexico State Fair, and his alabaster designs are exhibited in Casa De Abo and other galleries throughout the Southwest and Europe. |
